Austin is America’s Most Affordable City for Startups

Austin’s reputation and popularity just keeps growing! According to as study by Clever, a real estate tool and blog, Austin ranks number one as the most affordable metro in the United States for startups. The study looked at the top 50 most populated cities in the United States and factors considered in the study included startup density, startup growth, investment, education level of the local population, cost of living, and more.

In fact, the top four Texas metros all ranked in the top 10! After Austin at number 1, Dallas-Ft. Worth ranked number 3, Houston-The Woodlands-Sugarland was number 6 and San Antonio-New Braunfels landed at number 8.

Additional stats and highlights for why the study ranked Austin number 1 include:

  1. Austin ranked number 1 overall for startup density, which is a measurement of new and forthcoming businesses (3 years old and younger).

  2. Austin ranks number 2 for percentage of residents working at a startup at 8.6 percent.

  3. Austin’s startup growth rate is 9.1 percent, ranking number 7 nationally.

  4. Other highlights included Austin’s recreational activities, barbecue, live music and no corporate or personal income tax.

  5. The Austin-metro area is home to more college-educated residents than any other area in Texas. 34.5 percent of Austin-metro residents hold at least a bachelor’s degree.
